Alfred and Articia Stanley

The information on the following pages contains all the information known to us, with the exception of some information on the 4th generation, while the 5th and later generations have been completely omitted to protect the privacy of living individuals. 

It is a compilation of many, many resources and sources, please keep that in mind when using any of the information. Feel free to contact me and ask about the sources used for any particular family group so you can judge the quality of information before using it.

We are actively seeking contact with all descendants of Alfred Lee "Cap" Stanley, grandson of Alfred and Articia. We have some important news to share with you. On September 17, 2003 we initiated a new project which will benefit every Stanley family researcher: The Stanley Surname DNA Project.

As descendants of Alfred Stanley, we are very interested in finding at least one more male Stanley descendant of Alfred Stanley, from a straight male line, for comparison.

We also seek straight male line Stanley descendants of Joseph Stanley, said to have had the following sons:

• John Stanley, married Mary 'Polly' Buchanan

• George Stanley, married Winney Roberts

• Joseph Stanley, married Ollie Baker

Many researchers believe the above Joseph is the same as Joseph, father of Alfred Stanley. Participants in the DNA Project out of these lines could either prove or disprove that theory.

And, taking this project one step further, many researchers believe this Joseph to be a son of William Stanley and Judith (surname unknown).

William, born ca. 1720, died 1784, and Judith are said to have had the following sons:

• William Stanley, born ca 1746, married Nancy (surname unknown)

• John Stanley, born ca. 1748, married Mary Clayton

• Richard Stanley, born 1750, married Agnes Martin

• Moses Stanley, born ca. 1752, married Elizabeth Bird

• Hanner Robert Stanley, born ca. 1760

• Jesse/Joseph Stanley

Straight male line descendants of William and Judith Stanley, by participating in the DNA Project, could prove whether or not Jesse/Joseph, son of William, is the same as Joseph, father of John, George, Joseph, and possibly Alfred.
